The Admission System In JUPAS: Apply Full-Time Courses

by Tereso sobo

Studying at a university in Hong Kong needs to apply through JUPAS, which stands for Joint University Programmes Admissions System. Students looking for requirements and ways to apply for full-time university courses should check jupas admission score. It is used to evaluate and rank applicants for undergraduate programs.

Applicants should take the HKSDE exam to get the result and use its points.

How do you use JUPAS?

Study for a full-time university degree after your HKDSE by applying through JUPAS.

Applicants must complete all following steps below:

  • Create a JUPAS account. Enter the personal information and contact information asked to fill up the form.
  • Activate the JUPAS account and apply for admission. Login to your JUPAS account and list the exam subjects you are taking.
  • Submit program choices. Choose the program you want and apply for.

There are up to 20 programs to choose from in HK universities. Arrange them in order of your preference and put the one you want the most as number 1.

Applicants can also submit other documents if needed, such as:

  • A personal statement
  • Recommendation letters
  • Portfolio
  • School reports

The requirements are shown when choosing a program.

Wait for the HKDSE results

After the HKDSE exam is taken, the results will be sent to the universities.

How is the admission score used?

The JUPAS admission score of the applicant is calculated based on the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education results. The score gives the universities ideas on differentiating between applications that meet the minimum entrance requirements.

The score shows how well an applicant is in the HKDSE exams. Universities will use the score to decide whether you can get the program you want. Each university and program has several ways to count the score. However, they look at the results in four core subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • Chinese Language
  • Liberal Studies
  • English Language

They will choose one or two subjects you took, such as:

  • Chemistry
  • History

The two subjects mentioned above are elective subjects that the university will choose for you. Some programs give extra points for the subjects that are related to the course the applicant wants to study. The scores in these subjects are converted into points, such as:

  • Level 1 is converted into 1 point
  • Level 2 is converted into 2 points
  • Level 3 is converted into 3 points
  • Level 4 is converted into 4 points
  • Level 5 is converted into 5 points
  • Level 5* is converted into 6 points
  • Level 5** is converted into 7 points

The admission score will be the total of all the points. The higher the score, the better the chance to get into the program.

If applying through JUPAS, you must fill out the program of your choice before the HKDSE results. Once the results are out, you can make some changes in a short time called modification or reconsideration period.

Conclusion

Admissions score is based on the results of HKDSE exams. The results of the exam help universities decide if they give you a slot in the university. Applying for full-time degree programs at universities is important to pass through JUPAS.
